The Emerald Heights International School hosted Dr. Aalok Thakkar, a distinguished Computer Science professor from Ashoka University, for an enlightening workshop on QR Code Technology.
Dr. Thakkar took the students through the evolution of barcodes to the advanced mathematics behind QR codes, introducing them to concepts like the Reed-Solomon Code, which ensures QR codes remain functional even when damaged. Through hands-on activities, students learned how error correction works in real-world applications—giving them a practical understanding of how math and computing power today’s tech. This session not only deepened our understanding of QR codes but also opened our eyes to the crucial role these technologies play in fields like cybersecurity, encryption, and data management.
The workshop ended with a Q&A, where Dr. Thakkar answered questions about the future of QR technology and career opportunities in tech, giving our students valuable insights into the exciting paths they can take in STEM, Data Science, and Computer Science.
This experience was a reminder of how the intersection of mathematics and technology is shaping the future, and how today’s students are tomorrow’s innovators.
A huge thank you to Ashoka University and Dr. Aalok Thakkar for bringing this incredible learning experience to our students.
