Emerald Heights participated in the Round Square Zoom Postcard, hosted by Holy Trinity College, Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, on the theme “Challenging Ourselves Through Service Projects.” The session brought together 60 participants from 10 schools across 5 countries, making it a truly enriching international exchange.
Students from participating schools shared their perspectives on community service, resulting in discussions that were diverse, meaningful, and insightful. A central theme of the session was the importance of stepping outside one’s comfort zone. Many participants reflected on discovering new strengths and abilities through service initiatives such as tutoring children, creating environmental awareness campaigns, organizing fundraising activities for charitable organizations, and building support networks for senior communities.
A significant part of the session focused on how involvement in community service and volunteer work had changed students’ outlook on the world. Participants shared experiences of engaging with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds and witnessing social issues firsthand. These experiences helped them develop kindness, empathy, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
The discussion also highlighted the challenges associated with service projects, including limited resources, balancing academic commitments with volunteer work, cultural differences, language barriers, and personal emotional challenges. However, a common takeaway was that overcoming these obstacles contributed significantly to participants’ socio-emotional growth, mental development, and emotional maturity.
Throughout the session, several key skills and personal development outcomes associated with community service were identified, including:
- Leadership and decision-making skills
- Collaboration and teamwork
- Public speaking and communication skills
- Planning and time management
- Creative problem-solving
- Patience, empathy, and emotional intelligence
The learning outcomes were recognized as essential for both future careers and personal growth, enabling students to become adaptable, confident, and compassionate individuals capable of navigating life’s challenges.
The connection between community service and its impact on society was also explored. Students acknowledged that even small acts—such as helping others, raising awareness about social issues, and encouraging community involvement—can lead to meaningful and lasting change. Over time, these efforts help build stronger, more caring, and connected communities.
Emerald Heights delegation included Shourya Chourasiya, Yogiraditya Nema, Nishika Patidar, Angha Garg, Chahak Khurana, and Avni Singh Yadav of Class XI, accompanied by the adult delegate Ms. Jyoti Namdeo.
The postcard session reaffirmed that volunteering not only enhances skills and character but also enables students to give back to society in a positive and sustainable manner.
