DronaMaps, Brainchild of Alumnus Utkarsh Singh, Implements India’s Largest AI RFP with NHAI in 2024

We are incredibly proud to announce that DronaMaps, founded by our esteemed alumnus Utkarsh Singh, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone in collaboration with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). In 2024, DronaMaps successfully implemented India’s largest AI RFP, leveraging drones and AI technology to map and analyze approximately 20,000 km of National Highways and Expressways every month across the country. This remarkable project has recently been honored with the prestigious Gold Medal for eGovernance National Award 2025.

Utkarsh Singh is a CEO of DronaMaps who co-founded the company with Ayushi Mishra (Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar alumna – Batch of 2009). Both graduates of Johns Hopkins University, launched DronaMaps in 2016. DronaMaps is an AI-powered geospatial intelligence platform that creates and analyzes 3D maps to support urban planning, infrastructure development, disaster management, precision agriculture, and flood mitigation. It specializes in machine vision and autonomous systems.

In 2020, Utkarsh Singh was featured in the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia – Enterprise Technology Top-10 list for his contribution to enterprise technology with applications of Artificial Intelligence and drones.

Utkarsh studied Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University and it was at the university while working with large datasets for several academic courses, the ability to manipulate extremely large 3D datasets caught his fancy. He started exploring technologies which ‘generate’ massive datasets that could be analysed for intelligence. The cross industry problem solving capabilities of rapid 3D datasets created with drones fit the bill perfectly.

Since its inception, DronaMaps partnered with governments, universities, and major corporations such as Johns Hopkins University, Reliance Industries, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (GoI), SAP, Kotak Mahindra Bank and more. Utkarsh Singh personally led projects for drone based mapping of over 100 villages and several large urban areas across India.

He serves on the National Committee for Civil Aviation, Government of India and has pioneered the integration of drone based maps with existing enterprise giants like SAP and KPMG.

Utkarsh was also awarded the AI innovation of the year award by Economic Times where the ceremony was graced by none other than Steve Wozniak, and is the recipient of several distinguished accolades.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, DronaMaps played a vital role in tracking hotspots and aiding state governments with real-time data and mapping solutions. As part of the World Bank’s Tech Emerge Resilience Programme, the platform is now supporting SDMAs across India in disaster preparedness and risk assessment.

Today, DronaMaps continues to revolutionize how decision-makers use geospatial data to enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

Utkarsh frequently represents his global perspectives on AI via ORF’s Raisina Dialogue series of events across the globe. His vision is to see drones being used for Continuous and Uninterrupted Rapid 3D mapping, across the world, and effectively transform the impact of the ‘Second Half of the 21st Century’.

We extend our heartiest congratulations to Utkarsh Singh and Ayushi MIshra  on this incredible journey and contribution to technological innovation and nation-building.
